Female dunkers, mobile surfing and the pathetic Chicago Bulls
(Chris Andersen as Santa)
Merry Christmas everyone! It's that time of the year again -- the time when we get off the computer and spend some quality time with our loved ones -- or, if you despise your family, it's that time of the year when you search desperately for something, anything, to distract you from the misery of your uncle's fishing stories, or hearing about how that one family member who you hate is doing so much better than you.
Either way, the internet isn't exactly on our minds -- nor was it on mine, which is why I went a whole day without noting the impossible chokejob the Chicago Bulls displayed on Monday. Chicago blew a 35-point third quarter lead and lost, at home, to the Sacramento Kings. The Bulls led 79-44 with 8:50 to go in the third period and led by 33 two minutes later; it was the largest blown lead/comeback in 13 years.
Should Vinny Del Negro be fired? Like the Spurs, Chicago is a team that always starts out horrible and turns it on later in the year. But to blow a 35-point lead to a subpar Sacramento team is absolutely inexcusable, and if Del Negro was fired at this instance, I can't imagine many Bulls fans would be sad. One thing is for sure: Luol Deng, for all the potential he showed in that Miami series, has never evolved into a go-to scorer, and if he's the best player on any roster, that team can't possibly be a contender. By the way, remember how the Bulls were offered Kobe Bryant for Deng and Ben Gordon and how they TURNED IT DOWN? Talk about a bad move.
But if you were thinking that the Bulls' collapse was the most historic basketball event on December 21, you were wrong. Monday also marked the 25th anniversary of the very first time a woman dunked in a collegic basketball game. The hunt for the footage of the dunk was just as fascinating as the dunk itself, as the Wall Street Journal explains.
And finally, I have a little blurb to say about mobile.inhistoric.com. I got the chance yesterday to see what Inhistoric looked like on the iPhone -- I had used the device before, but hadn't thought to see how it looks from a mobile perspective. All the SBN sites have a mobile version, and boy am I glad since browsing on the iPhone can be an excercise in frustration. If you're looking for sites that function well on your phone, rest assured, SBNation.com is one of them.
Also, surfing for YouTube videos on the iPhone is like trying to start a fire by clanging a pair of rocks together. I'm sure in ten years, when the internet will be 20 times sweeter, the YouTube app will be somewhat useful. But as of now, unless you're in an extremely populated area or you don't mind waiting for a smaller, crappier version of your video to load, it needs work.
Anyway, that's all I got. Have a happy Christmas break guys! Mozal Tov!
