Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Odds and ends from Week 4

  • Mark Sanchez missed out on becoming the first rookie in the Super Bowl era to start the first four games of the season and win all four of them. Ben Roethlisberger won all 13 games he started in as a rookie in 2004. However, Tommy Maddox started the first two games and the final game of the season for Pittsburgh.
  • Randy Moss caught his 137th career touchdown, moving him past Marshall Faulk for sixth on the all-time list. The players ahead of him: Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith, Marcus Allen, LaDainian Tomlinson, and Terrell Owens.
  • Peyton Manning threw career touchdown No. 342 on Sunday, tying him with Fran Tarkenton for the third most all time. He also threw his 55th career touchdown to Reggie Wayne -- making him just the second QB to throw at least 55 TD's to two separate receivers (Wayne and Marvin Harrison).
  • After getting zero catches in last week's game, Terrell Owens caught just three passes for 60 yards in the Bills' 38-10 loss to the Dolphins. Trent Edwards was just 14-26 with a touchdown and three interceptions. As bad as things are going, it's only a matter of time before Owens calls out someone on the team. I'm guessing Trent Edwards.
  • Not football-related, but Alex Rodriguez -- thanks to a two-home run, seven-RBI game on the final day of the year -- finished the year with 30 home runs and 100 RBI. That's awfully impressive considering he missed the first month of the season. He is also the first MLB player to accomplish that feat 13 times.

Error appended: Roethlisberger came on in Week 3, not Week 4

Just a note

Tommy Maddox started the first two weeks, then the final game while all of the Steelers’ starters were resting.

Who’s the first? Montana to Rice and Taylor? Montana to Clark and Taylor? Marino to Duper and Clayton?

Just a few guesses. If it’s not them, I have no idea. Maybe Dan Fouts.

Had to search for it

Sorry about that. It’s Marino: Mark Clayton and Mark Duper
